Alpine Museum & Exhibition, Chamonix

1. Alpine museum

Chamonix

The museum is currently closed for renovations

Situated in the Chamonix Palace in the centre of town, this museum hosts a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

Open every day in summer and in the school holidays except Tuesday afternoons. Closed on Christmas Day, 1 January and 1 May. Visit the website for more updated information on opening dates, times and entry fees.

You can buy also an annual museum pass for all the Chamonix museums which allows you unlimited access for one year.

2. Maison de la Memoire et du Patrimoine, Chamonix- Centre

This museum houses exhibits of Chamonix's past. 

It showcases archives, oddities, visual and audible displays and has a regular temporary exhibition, which you can find details of on our events calendar

3. Maison de Barberine museum

Location
Chamonix

Situated in an 18th century house, the Barberine museum is dedicated to showing pastoral life of the Vallorcine people in the valley since the 18th century.

Guided tours are available, and you can visit the museum outside of publicised opening hours by appointment. Call to arrange.

4. Municipal library

Location
Chamonix

The main central library for Chamonix which houses the occasional exhibition and lectures.

There's a section of English language books for both adults and children.

5. Maison de l'Alpage museum

Location
Servoz

This little museum is housed in the same building as the post office and library in the village centre of Servoz.

Exhibitions include ancient shepherding and newer farming practises, changes in land and landscapes over the years and local produce.

Mountaineer Museum, Les Houches

6. Montagnard museum

Location
Les Houches

Situated in a house dating back to the 1750's, this museum showcases mountain lifestyles from the reconstruction of three pieces of traditional housing and objects from everyday life.

There is a permanent collection or rural exhibits, toys, farming equipment and heritage items, as well as the occasional temporary exhibition during the year.
