Skier in fatal fall at the Aiguille du Midi

Fall in the Cosmiques couloir

Imprint
By Ellie Mahoney, Updated

A group of skiers were making a descent in the Cosmiques couloir on Sunday afternoon from the Aiguille du Midi when one of them fell several hundred metres.

The rest of the party raised the alarm with the PGHM at around 13:00 but unfortunately the man, a 37 year old American, died on the scene from his injuries.

The Cosmiques couloir is a steep skiing route down the west face of the Aiguille du Midi and is known to be particularly steep and rocky.

An enquiry will be made into the exact cause of the accident.

Our thoughts are with the mans family and friends.
