Fatal Aiguille du Midi speed riding accident
Man found at the bottom of the North face
A 26 year old speed rider was found dead at the bottom of the north face of the Aiguille du Midi yesterday.
He had apparently already done a number of descents that morning with a group of friends, although none of them actually saw what happened to have caused him to crash.
The PHGM are investigating what may have caused the accident, but in the meantime the deputy commander told local paper Le Dauphine, that he'd like to warm other speed riders of the dangers of doing back to back flights without a break.
He stated that "doing this kind of non-stop flying makes the pilots tired and like all extreme activities, you lose your edge and your reflexes become slower as a result".
This is second speed riding fatality in as many months, at the same location.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man.
