An injured and bewildered wild boar left his usual habitat on Sunday morning and was found wandering around the Jardins de Fujiyoshida (the landscaped area near to the church and Espace Tairraz museum).
The 90lb boar had been shot by hunters in the woods between La Floria and La Flegere. However, the animal was not killed and ran off into the undergrowth. The hunters tried to track the boar, first by following the trail of blood and then by sniffer dog.
Eventually the dog picked up the scent and led the hunters in the direction of the lower part of the woods in the Brevent area. Calls to the police from local residents confirmed that the boar had ended up in the gardens, not far from the St Michel underground car park.
A police officer immediately located the animal and killed it. Boar are not known for being particularly friendly at the best of times, but injured and in a residential area it could have posed a danger to members of the public.
