Two injured in Grands Montets paragliding accident

featured in News & Reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

Bad weather on Tuesday afternoon proved dangerous for two unlucky paragliders. After taking off from the top of the Grands Montets (3300m) they ran into trouble and emergency rescue services were called.

Heavy cloud cover interfered with visibility, making the recovery of the injured victims a tricky operation for the PGHM. Rescue workers and doctors were taken up to Lognan (1900m) before being driven to where the two paragliders were waiting.

The victims are a local paragliding instructor and his passenger; between them they are thought to have incurred fractures of the legs and pelvis, although details of who broke what have not been confirmed. The more badly injured of the two was helicoptered off to hospital in Annecy, whereas the other was taken to Sallanches.
