*UPDATE* Fatal fall for 2 climbers
The identities of the two climbers killed on the Ginat route last week have been identified as two young eastern European men; Croatian mountaineer Toni Roso aged 21 and his Serbian friend Igor Skender aged 25.
The two men had set off early Tuesday morning to climb the Ginat route on the north face of Les Droites. They were later seen by other climbers about halfway along the route, but it is not clear whether they were on their way up or down at the time.
Their bodies could not be identified at first as weather conditions prevented the PGHM (mountain rescue services) from reaching them by helicopter until Thursday, when they were brought back down to the valley.
Toni Roso was from Makarska in Croatia and was considered one of the country's most promising young climbers, according to local press. A friend and fellow mountaineer Vedrana Simicevic said that Roso was by no means an inexperienced climber, "he was very careful when climbing, but obviously there was an accident which he and Igor could not influence."
Igor Skenda was from Belgrade and was apparently from a family with a strong mountaineering background. He had visited Chamonix before with his parents and according to local press he had climbed many peaks in the Swiss and French Alps.
