Despite the recent efforts to encourage more visitors to the Cinema Vox in Chamonix, the threat of closure is still hanging in the air.

There will be a meeting of council officials on 4th February to determine whether or not Chamonix gets to keep its cinema. The support group Les Amis du Ciné Vox (Friends of Cine Vox) will present the mayor with a petition that will hopefully sway him in favour of allowing the cinema to remain open for the near future.

In recent months the cinema has introduced more films in English, with an increased number of screenings. As well as the latest English/American/European offerings there was also a classic film season that ran on Sunday afternoons throughout the autumn, as well as the Montagne Fait Son Cinéma festival of mountain movies over the summer.

Throughout the year Cinema Vox gets involved in many local events such as the Corsican Festival and the Piolet d'Or, as well as special screenings of films such as Boy A by local author Jonathan Trigell.

Tickets are 8.50€ (concessions 7€, children 6€) or you can buy an 8 ticket pack for 48€. The Cinema Vox also runs a special deal with the La Potiniere restaurant next door. For 15€ the deal includes pizza and dessert at the restaurant followed by a movie ticket and a drink or ice cream.

Chamonet.com publishes regular reviews of films being shown this month, see here for movies now showing and watch this space for future reviews. You can find show times on the Cinema Vox website, if a film has VOST after the title it is being shown in its original language with French subtitles.
