Refuge du Gouter to Open in June 2013
Problem-hit Refuge to finally open its doors this summer
The official opening of the new and much anticipated Refuge du Gouter is now planned for the 1st of June 2013. Last year the new 3,817m Refuge du Gouter suffered a variety of teething problems including a fire in August that led to the cancellation of the official opening, originally planned for September 2012.
When it does finally open its doors this summer, the Refuge du Gouter is set to be a revolutionary mountain hut - it has numerous pioneering eco faciliites such as solar and wind powered electricity, triple glazine, and recycled water. The revolutionary, space age structure has attracted some controversy however as the renovation project has taken over two years to complete at a cost of over €6 million.
The doors are set to open to a select few on the 1st of June 2013 and if all goes according to plan and the authorities approve, the Refuge should be fully open to all a couple of weeks later.
We will keep you posted....
