A group of five from Chamonix were caught in a large avalanche in the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif but escaped with their lives.

The three skiers and two snowboarders from Chamonix were descending the Glacier de Toule when the avalanche set off on Monday morning.
Fortunately the Italian mountain rescue were quick to the scene, with the helicopter DMZ directly at the foot of the mountain.
Two snowboarders were said to have suffered minor injuries but otherwise the group escaped without harm.

The current Chamonix avalanche hazard rating is 3 on all orientations.
