Mini avalanche halts Montenvers train

Passengers rescued by helicopter

Passengers on the Train du Montenvers got a helicopter ride thrown in for free yesterday!

An avalanche slid across the Montenvers rail track on Saturday afternoon, stranding about 100 passengers. The train was evacuated and a PGHM mountain rescue helicopter made 25 return journeys to get everyone back down to the valley before nightfall.

It does unfortunately mean that the Train du Montenvers will be closed for a couple of days until the track has been cleared of snow and checked for safety. Keep an eye on our Montenvers lift status page for updates.

UPDATE: The Montenvers train is now running again, the line has been cleared and the area is secured.
