James Stentiford Takes Bronze in Austria
British snowboarder James Stentiford came third in the Austrian stop of the Freeride World Tour in Fieberbrunn at the weekend.
After a poor snow season the conditions on the slope did not lend themselves to daring skiing or snowboarding but James took an alternate route to most of the other competitors and came away with third place.
“I'm happy that I stayed on my feet all the way through the course and to be on the podium is better than I expected. It's a great achievement for someone from the UK. Basically I decided yesterday to go skiers' right because no one had chosen that line. I tried to stay fluid, keep my speed, I jumped over a few things and stayed on my feet,” said James after the event.
His latest finish puts him in 7th place in the overall competition rankings as the riders move into the final round of the tour in Verbier next weekend.
It was good day for the home crowd in Austria with four of the six podium places going to Austrian riders, including 1st place in the ski and snowboard events.
