Injured alpinist spends night on the Grandes Jorasses
Yesterday morning the Chamonix PGHM (mountain rescue police) had to scramble the emergency chopper when an injured climber and his friend spent the night out on the mountain following an accident.
The two men were crossing the Walker Spur on Wednesday when they were struck by tumbling blocks of ice. Although one of them was injured they managed to partially descend the mountain and they camped out overnight on the Leschaux glacier.
The rescue helicopter arrived the following morning and returned them safely to the valley.
