After the barrage of emails we've had asking about resident lift pass prices in Chamonix for this forthcoming winter season, we are pleased to say we've had the official word from the Compagnie du Mont Blanc. These discounted prices are ONLY offered on annual passes and to benefit you must have a valid Carte Gens de Pays or Carte Resident Secondaire.

The lift passes are on sale now by telephone only on 04 50 53 22 75 (a five euro booking fee will apply and you need to go to Montenvers lift ticket office to collect your pass) and they go on general sale from the Montenvers cash tills from 24th October 2009. If you want to benefit from the lowest possible price on the Mont Blanc Unlimited annual resident pass, you must buy BEFORE the 30th November 2009.

The resident lift pass prices for the 2009/2010 season in Chamonix are as follows:

Chamonix Le Pass annual:
Adult = 500€
Young = 400€
Couple = 850€

Mont Blanc Unlimited annual bought BEFORE 30th November 2009:
Adult = 650€
Young = 520€
Couple = 1105€

Mont Blanc Unlimited annual bought on or after 1st December 2009:
Adult = 800€
Young = 640€
Couple = 1360€

The young person's pass is for those aged between four and 25 years old. To qualify for the couple's rate, you will need to present proof of address, such as an electricity bill in joint names and you will need to buy your passes at the same time. If you're not already on the lift pass system, you will need to bring a colour passport-sized photo. You can pay three euros for a new hands free lift pass badge, or you can recycle any old ones.

This year the Mont Blanc Unlimited annual pass includes UNLIMITED skiing in Verbier (all 4 Valleys), Courmayeur and Les Houches as well as reduced price Mont Blanc Tunnel tickets when bought from Montenvers, free shuttle buses to and from Courmayeur (when reserved in advance) and three tickets to try other ski resorts in Haute Savoie.

The Carte Gens de Pays is available for anyone who can prove residency in the Chamonix valley. To get one, you need to go to the Mairie with your latest 'Avis d'impot sur le revenu' (income tax bill) and a colour passport photo. The card now costs five euros and is valid for five years.

The Carte Resident Secondaire is available to anyone who owns property in the valley. To get the card it is the same process at the Mairie, but you will need to produce your latest 'Taxe fonciere' bill, rather than your income tax bill.

For both cards you can add dependents (ie spouse and children) on production of a birth certificate. You can also apply for the card by post from the Chamonix Mairie:
