Free ice skating in Les Houches and night skiing too!
Positive news from Les Houches as the 'powers that be' have decided the outdoor ice rink is going to be free this winter - yes, you can ice skate for free in Les Houches!
The natural outdoor rink is in the centre of the village next to the Tourchet beginners ski area, just before you get to the church in Les Houches. The rink will be open according to the weather conditions, which means pinning them down to fixed hours was impossible on the 'phone, so if you're making a special journey please give them a call on 04 50 54 52 99 to check. Entrance AND skate hire is now free, so well worth a trip out - fun for all the family!
Talking of the Tourchet piste, we often get emails asking about night skiing in the valley. Le Tourchet is the only ski open for making a few turns in the snow at night. This winter the piste is open every Thursday evening during the December and February school holidays.
Access to the drag lift is free and there's music and even a little vin chaud to help fend off the cold night air (although whether it'll make your skiing style improve or not is up for debate!). Although it's only one piste and it's dead small, it's a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and many people use it as a chance to have a go at something new such as snow skates, telemarking or even snow bikes.
