E111 form replaced by European Health Insurance Card

featured in News & Reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

The E111 forms which entitles travellers to free, or reduced cost medical treatment in Europe and Switzerland is being replaced with a new European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

As of 01 January 2006 travellers to Europe will be required to carry an EHIC as the old paper based E111 will be invalid. Furthermore, any old E111 forms issued before the 19 August 2004 are also currently no longer valid.

The EHIC card is free, and can be obtained from your local Post Office or alternatively, click here to fill in an application form online. The EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance and should be used in conjunction with your travel insurance policy.

For further information on E111 or the new EHIC see our Health section within the Resort FAQs.
