Chamonix Train Service Reopening Delayed
Trains will not resume service before 6th of July
A fatal accident on the Mont Blanc Express line has pushed back the reopening of the Chamonix valley train service until the 4th of July 6th of July, while a full investigation is under-way.
A 38 year old worker died last Thursday when his crane fell 10 metres off the new rail bridge in Passy. The large crane-truck managed to cross the safety barriers on the new bridge and crashed to the ground.
A full investigation into the circumstances is now under-way and consequently the Chamonix train service will not start on the 29th of June as originally scheduled, the service should start back up on the 6th of July to allow for tests on the line and could be pushed back further if required - full timetable can be found here.
In the meantime a new financing agreement has been signed by the partners involved in the railway renovation. In 2011 the original agreement had budgeted for €54M, the project has now been renewed with a budget of €75M.
