The 2010 PPR (Risk Prevention Plan) for Chamonix announced several new standards for home owners in potential risk areas in the Chamonix valley, which will incur modifications to existing buildings and properties.
The plan adds new avalanche risk factors to the existing 2002 Risk Prevention Plan which covered risks from landslides and floods.
All 1536 property owners in risk areas have been notified by letter from the Chamonix mayor, informing them of the new regulations.
Modifications such as the addition of special protective shutters on exposed windows and changes to property access are legally required to be completed by 2015.
More information can be found on the study and the affected areas online here and an interactive map of the area here.
