An avalanche in Norway’s high Arctic region engulfed a group of 5 ski-tourers. They were part of a larger group of 12 who had split up prior to the avalanche.
The Chamonix guide, Jérôme Morachioli, was one of the 5 victims - his body was found under 8 metres of snow.
Jérôme Morachioli a doctor and mountain guide, was well-known in the Chamonix valley for his part in many mountain rescue missions.
