The mountain security open day (Journée portes ouvertes) features a range of helicopters used in rescues by the PGHM (Peloton Gendarmerie Haute Montagne).
There will be ground and air demonstrations throughout the day (subject to the choppers getting called out on actual missions); the helicopter displays will be at 11am and 3pm.
There will also be a 'buvette' snack bar selling food and drink, info stands and plenty of opportunity to chat to the rescue team members, from the mechanics and medics to the pilots and winch operators.
If you're coming from Chamonix, it's a very pleasant 30 minute walk past the tennis courts and across the parapente fields, or there are free shuttle buses running from Flegere.
