Vendredi Vert in Chamonix

A public anti-pollution movement on Friday in the Chamonix Valley

featured in Events Calendar Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Local residents, school children and businesses are taking part in an anti-pollution movement on Friday in the Chamonix Valley called "Vendredi Vert" or green Friday.

The idea is to get as many people as possible to stop using their cars, instead taking public transport or walking, and not using log burning fires for a day in an effort to reduce pollution in the Valley and to show that residents are concerned.

A number of parents, school children and schools are already involved and a facebook event has been set up to spread the word and encourage as many people as possible to take part.

Could you manage without your car for a day? Or if you have to use it, could you car pool with a few people? Or just take the bus or walk to wherever you need to go?

The tourist office and Chamonix Bus are involved too.. so spread the word and let's see if together we can make an impact.

Walk, bus, bike, train or carpool. No log fires!

Sign the petition for more trains and clean air.
