An American climber fell 40 metres whilst climbing the Ginat route on Les Droites (between the Aiguille Verte & Les Courtes) with his 15 year old son.

The boy saw his father fall and called for rescue teams to come out at around 9pm on Wednesday night, but because of bad visibility they were unable to get to him in the helicopter. The boy, suffering from shock, remained in contact with the PGHM throughout the night and was recovered early on Thursday morning.

The father (61) sadly died from his fall, but thankfully his son was recovered with only a mild bout of hypothermia.

Our thoughts are with the son and his family at this sad time.
