Electricity Pylon Down in Servoz Causes Chaos

featured in News & Reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

A large electricity pylon has snapped in two, narrowly missing a house in Servoz & destroying the garage, causing a power outage in the village.

At the moment both main roads into Servoz are closed and the only way into the village is via the Passy back road or by taking the Route de la Ferme that runs parallel to the road where the pylon is down. Take care though as low-hanging cables are crossing over the road, so it's not advisable to take any large or high vehicles down Route de la Ferme.

The pylon came down after heavy snow over the last few days, on the back road near the climbing wall. A couple of electrical transformers have also been damaged.

At the moment residents are getting a few hours of back-up electricity in the evenings, but it's unclear at the moment as to when full power will be restored.

The roads were re-opened last night and normal train service has resumed as the area has now been declared safe. Work is still needed to get the power line fully functioning again.
