Another Tragic Accident in the Grand Couloir du Gouter

An experienced climber fell at the top of the Grand Couloir on Sunday

No stranger to climbing and mountaineering the 69 year old man was an experienced Alpinist and was alone during a visit to the Gouter Refuge.

At around 8:30am on Sunday morning he was descending from the top of the Grand Couloir, co-incidentally just behind a guide, when he fell. The guide raised the alert but sadly by the time PGHM Chamonix and their emergency doctor reached the scene, they found only the man's body at the bottom of the couloir.

A tragic accident that shows us that despite experience and knowledge, the mountains are a dangerous place. Our thoughts go out to his family.
