Wingsuit flying to be permitted in Chamonix?

Banned extreme sport could be given the go-ahead

Word on the grapevine is that the banned sport of wingsuit flying could be re-permitted in the Chamonix Valley.

Wingsuit flying was banned a year ago from certain sites within the valley after the death of a Norwegian man and the injury of a South African man within minutes of each other when they attemped to fly down the ENSA couloir from Brevent. The sport was subsequently banned from Brevent and Aiguille du Midi, with signs being installed at the bottom of both lift stations to warn people off.

However, local authorities are apparently re-thinking their stance, according to Le Dauphiné Libère. The train of thought seems to be that banning the sport has not deterred wingsuit flyers, who are continuing to jump from the banned sites, so they may as well work with them rather than against them.
