Survey suggests that average price drops outweigh the strong Euro

Specialist ski travel agency Ski Solutions is reporting that despite media reports that skiers need to cut back to find affordable skiing this winter due to the credit crunch and strong Euro, average costs have in fact dropped, more than compensating for the effect of the weakening pound against the Euro. “Contrary to current media hype, if you shop smartly and take advice from those in the know, your ski holiday needn't cost the earth, and may even work out cheaper than last year.” said a Ski Solutions spokesman.

A company survey revealed that there are some exceptional deals for those looking to take packages to chalets and hotels on most dates this winter, with the exception of New Year and Half-Term (although if you use our Availability Finder you may be surprised by some of the prime spots still up for grabs!).

Ski Solutions compared prices for a range of catered chalets in major Swiss and French resorts and found the properties are the same each year, but the prices are cheaper this year than last by up to £110.

They recommended that clients looking for a bargain and wanting to cushion themselves from Euro price increases should consider booking a late deal package to a chalet where your breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and wine is included. Most operators prices are based on exchange rates set in March when the pound was at least 15% stronger so unless you've already got Euros or Swiss Francs stashed away, a package with a tour operator will make the most financial sense.

You should also think about booking your ski hire online before you go, and save up to 40% on the resort price.
