By Alison Shayler, Updated

Les Houches is to get a new shopping and cultural centre, to be designed along the lines of a typical village square.

There will be space for shops, services, a cultural hall and parking. 11 companies have applied for shop space, with just 6 places up for grabs. The successful applicants will be announced on the 11th August.

Les Houches is benefitting from a number of developments, including the recently built town hall and some new local businesses. The village square complex will cover a space of 200m² and is scheduled to be open by September 2013.

Building permits need to be submitted by 15th September 2011, with work to begin in April 2012.
