Les Bossons glacier lift opens this weekend!

The little two man chairlift that takes you up to the chalet next to the infamous Les Bossons glacier is finally, despite its somewhat chequered history, opening this weekend to welcome hikers to the area.

Back in the day, the Les Bossons glacier was a hive of skiing activity with the ski jump and three pistes that used the snow on the glacier (which at the time went nearly down to the road!). In the summer, hikers and sightseers used the lift to gain access to classic walks such as Les Pyramides and La Jonction, or to stop and have an ice-cream at the buvette whilst gazing down on the glacier.

Just a couple of winters ago, the area was given a new lease of life with the Chamonix Snowpark which let freestylers have fun on their very own piste packed full of rails and jumps. That disappeared after a couple of years and sadly, the lift stayed very still.

This year, the commune has been determined to see the lift up and running again. SET, the company that runs La Vormaine ski area, has been taken on to manage the lift. Although due open over a week ago, it took longer than expected to get the lift back up 'to norm' with spare parts tricky to find. However, determination has paid off and the lift has been given the green light to open this weekend.

For hikers, access to Les Pyramides from the top of the chair takes around 1hr15 and to La Jonction 4hrs. For sightseers, there's the chalet just after the arrival of the chair that is well worth a visit as it includes a scrapbook of discoveries made on the glacier such as parts of the Malabar Princess aeroplane that crashed on Mont Blanc in the 1950s - fascinating stuff!

Lift prices for Les Bossons have been set at : 8 euros single, 10 euros return for adults and 6 euros single, 8 euros return for children.
