It's a very merry multicultural Christmas in Chamonix

Take a stroll around Chamonix town centre and you'll hear a good few different languages being spoken as resort fills up for Christmas and New Year. This cosmopolitan feel has been embraced by new association Mundo, with the launch of the International Christmas Market this week.

Held over two days (yesterday and today, Tuesday) the market offers such delights as Swedish salmon, French gingerbread and pavlova. You might think with a name like that the meringue and cream dessert we all love is Russian, but no it's New Zealand which claims to be behind pavlova!

As well as tasty treats to buy, there will also be hot drinks on sale and a range of Christmas gifts and decoration ideas. For the kids there is a free creative workshop between 16:00 and 18:30, learning how to make Christmas tree decorations.

The International Christmas Market, organised by the Mundo cultural and event association, is on now until 20:00 tonight, Tuesday, in the Place du Triangle d'Amitie by the tourist office in the centre of Chamonix.
