A bag of Indian diplomatic mail has been discovered on Mont Blanc close to where an Air India plane crashed 46 years ago.

Mountain rescue worker Arnaud Christmann recovered the bag on the 21st of August having been alerted to its presence by tourists who had seen something shining up on the Glacier des Bossons. In addition to the bag, Christmann and his neighbour Jules Berger also found pieces of the cabin, a shoe, cables and a plane wheel.

The Air India plane en route from Mumbai to New York came down on the southwest face of Mont Blanc on January 24th 1966 killing all on board. The diplomatic bag has now been handed over to the Chamonix police.
