By Robin Deering, Updated

Late Friday afternoon a group of nine Swiss skiers and two accompanying Swiss guides were skiing the Pas de Chevre route off the Grands Montets, when a block of rock broke away from the mountain and hit two of skiers in the group.

Of the two skiers, a 37 year old man died from injuries at Annecy hospital whilst a 47 year old woman is being treated for serious injuries.

The accident took place late in the day. With recent spring conditions and the raised risk of avalanches and rock fall it is advised against skiing the Pas de Chèvre late in the afternoon.
