Yesterday evening a Chamonix Bus travelling from Le Tour in the direction of Argentière skidded on the narrow bridge that leads to the Col de Montet. The bus smashed through the barrier and tumbled into the river below, landing at a 50° angle to the river bed.

By 7.25pm the rescue services had been alerted and a dozen fire-fighters attended the scene. Fortunately the bus was carrying only 3 passengers and the driver. The driver and one passenger suffered small injuries and were taken to hospital, the two other passengers were unscathed.

The road between Argentière and Le Tour was closed off last night until 1.30am, while the bus was lifted from river on a crane. The full details of the accident were unable to be established at the time, so the gendarmes will be continuing their investigation this morning.
