Celebrate Burns Night in Chamonix

featured in News & Reviews Author Caroline Face, Updated

Following the success of last years' Burns Night party, the Chamonix Tourist Office is again organising a bit of a 'knees up' for Burns Night on the 23rd Jan 2009. To be held in the Espace Best Mont Blanc (the venue behind the Prieure Hotel), the night promises to be full of fun and Scottishness.

In honour of the famous 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns, who originally penned Auld Lang Syne which evolved into being a folk song synonymous with New Year, the night is set to be a thoroughly authentic affair. Of course, there'll be haggis (or panse de brebis farcie for the French!), music, bag pipers and a proper Ceilidh with the Loch Leman Ceilidh Band all the way from, err...Lausanne.

Traditionally at Burns Night parties there is a host who does the 'address the haggis' speech and generally hosts the evening. Once again, Bill Nolan, executive board member of the International Rugby Board representing Scotland will be the host, assisted by Tourist Office boss Bernard Prud'Homme who, according to spies, looks rather fetching in a kilt!

If last year is anything to go by, the Burns Night celebrations in Chamonix will be a hoot with good food, entertainment and a real cosmopolitan mix of nationalities all wanting that authentic Scottish Burns Night.

Tickets cost 40 euros per person and are on sale at the Tourist Office in Chamonix town centre, or you can order online from the Tourist Office Reservation Centre website.
