In just a weeks time works will start up again on the Refuge du Gouter and the energy efficiency of this green build will be put to the test.

New and improved Gouter hut is set to be as eco-friendly as possible

On the 20th of March works will start up again on the hut, situated at 3835 metres. At the same time local company Albedo Energie will be charged with measuring the energy efficiency of the building.

The standards are set to be high as the build was set to include triple glazing, locally sourced materials, solar panels, wind turbines and a water filtration system.

Albedo Energie has indicated, as part of their carbon footprint study of the shelter covering the construction and use until 2062, that the refuge for 120 people produces as much CO2 as a typical family of four (540 tonnes compared to 450).

This exemplary build funded by the Club Alpin Français should be a inspiration to the valley.
