BASS Chamonix Director Derek Tate heads up Ireland's delegation for the Interski Congress
Derek Tate, director of BASS Chamonix, will be attending the forthcoming Interski Congress in St Anton this January as part of the delegation for the Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors (IASI).
The IASI will be presenting a lecture delivered by David Murrie, a former professor of sports biomechanics in the United States, an IASI member and very experienced ski teacher. This will be the first time that Ireland have delivered at Interski and marks a huge step forward for Ireland's recognition as a snowsports teaching nation.
The Interski Congress takes place every four years and is in effect the “snowsport instructor's Olympics”. Snowsports teaching nations from around the world come together to exchange ideas on the latest in ski & snowboard technique and teaching methodologies.
The theme for the forthcoming congress is “Do it, Feel it, Be it”. IASI's delegation for Interski includes; Derek Tate, IASI's Head of Training and Director of BASS Chamonix, Pete Gillespie, IASI Board Member and Director at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead and David Murrie, a graduate of Loughborough University with a background in athletics, skiing, coach education and sports science.
Commenting on the forthcoming congress, Derek Tate says, “this will be the 2nd time that I have attended an Interski Congress, the last time being Norway in 1999, but this will be a even greater occasion for Ireland and IASI as we will have a active role in the congress with Dave Murrie presenting to the assembled snowsports nations of the world. This will do an enormous amount for our credibility in the world of snowsports teaching and help to gain better recognition for IASI qualified snowsports instructors. Attending and being actively involved in these big International meetings is essential as it helps employment opportunities for our members around the world”.
