A dangerous rescue mission was carried out last night (Wednesday) by the PGHM (Pelton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne – high mountain police). The unscathed adventurers numbered a Czech skier, two Scots and an Australian; all of whom had been wedged for several hours on a rocky ledge in the Mont Blanc mountain range.

After having attempted a technical off-piste route in bad weather, the 26 year old Czech man became trapped on a ledge surrounded by rocks at approximately 1900m. By around 4pm he had managed to call a friend, who alerted the rescue services.

Whilst making their way to the Czech skier the rescuers happened upon a group of three other skiers, also in distress. The two Scots and one Australian, aged between 26 and 27, were stranded on the same ledge, not far from the Czech skier.

The rescue mission took 10 gendarmes until 4am to rescue the three skiers and the Czech man was brought down shortly afterwards. All four were unharmed and had not suffered any hypothermia or frostbite.
