1. Big Mountain Basecamp Bar & Restaurant

Whether you’re hungry or thirsty after a day in the mountains, Big Mountain Basecamp has you covered. Come for fresh craft beer, a relaxed restaurant atmosphere, an on-site micro-brewery, a large sunny terrace, shady beer garden and a take-out beer shop.

Just a 10-minute walk from Chamonix centre, Big Mountain Basecamp offers 20 taps of craft beer. Expect a mix of classic Big Mountain brews (including their own 0.5% NANO IPA), limited editions brewed on site in Chamonix and guest beers from some of Europe’s best craft breweries. You’ll also find a curated wine selection, spritzes, soft drinks and locally roasted coffee.

Alongside the drinks, the kitchen serves homemade artisan pizzas made with locally sourced ingredients, plus burgers, ribs and generous sharing plates.

Inside, there’s seating for around 80 people, while two large south-facing terraces are a firm local favourite. From here, you can enjoy a well-earned beer with uninterrupted views of the Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc.

2. Bighorn Bistro Restaurant

Bighorn Bistro in Chamonix Sud is known for its homemade American-style comfort food, from stacked burgers to freshly baked desserts. You can pair your meal with a craft beer or one of their creative cocktails. With friendly service and a laid-back atmosphere, it’s a favourite with both locals and visitors, offering generous portions, warm hospitality, and a menu that consistently delivers hearty, satisfying flavours after a day on the mountain or during a relaxed evening out.

This spacious yet cosy restaurant is run by an American family who grew up skiing, climbing and running the steep slopes of the Chamonix valley.

The family originates from the North and wild west of America. The interior décor comes from Cody and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, giving the authentic feel of a rustic western ski lodge with the sophistication of a downtown gastro-pub found in the menu. 

Bighorn caters to large groups, families and discerning beer and burger lovers, as well as those looking for vegetarian, vegan and healthy options amongst the cheese and meat of the French Alps! They're also happy to cater for dietary requirements, so don't hesitate to ask what they can do to suit your needs.

Sunday Brunch is a must for anyone visiting town, bringing together the most traditional brunch items including eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, freshly baked cinnamon rolls and buttermilk pancakes, all freshly home-made on the day. They also offer a loaded Bloody Mary that will cure any hangover and a fresh squeezed mimosa to share with your friends after an early ski or late lie in!

Bighorn has a draft beer list that offers every style, flavour, strength and country brew. With an ever-rotating list, there is always something new to try.

Located in Chamonix Sud with an unbeatable panoramic view of the Mont Blanc Massif mountain range, it has uninterrupted afternoon sunshine and sits in a bustling pedestrian square with neighbouring bars and restaurants within walking distance.

3. Pointe Isabelle Bar and Bistro Restaurant

This tastefully refurbished restaurant and bar are right in the heart of Chamonix on the popular Avenue Michel Croz, close to the train station.

The décor here is pretty funky for Chamonix, less 'Savoyard and Chalet' style than most of the restaurants around, they describe it as "timeless rather than trendy" and I think they are right. This could easily be a bar and bistro in a more cosmopolitan city.

With a fresh and airy feel indoors and a relaxed street side terrace outside, this is a great place to meet friends, take the family or have a business lunch.

A fairly varied menu serving a mix of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, and a selection of international cuisine, plus an injection of Savoyard with a few Reblochon cheese heavy meals.

5. Micro Brasserie de Chamonix Restaurant

MBC, a Canadian-style bar just outside Chamonix centre, is famous for its craft beer selection and hearty, flavour-packed food. The menu offers classic pub favourites, including juicy burgers with meat or vegetarian options, satisfying every appetite. With a sociable, laid-back atmosphere and regular live music, it’s a favourite spot for après-ski gatherings or casual evenings out. Friendly service, generous portions, and a lively vibe make MBC a must-visit for both locals and visitors looking for fun and flavour.

Tucked just outside the centre of Chamonix, MBC (Micro Brasserie de Chamonix) is a Canadian-run bar and restaurant that's built a solid reputation for great beer, big portions and a lively après-ski buzz. Everything on tap is brewed in-house using fresh mountain water, with four regular beers and a rotating special all crafted without isinglass, making them vegan-friendly.

You’ll find plenty of bar food favourites on the menu, from nachos and onion rings to grilled meats and Canadian classics like poutine. The burgers are a highlight here; choose from beef, chicken, lamb or a well-made veggie option that blends tofu, mushrooms and herbs into a proper patty. You can customise your toppings and pick from regular or criss-cross fries, or swap in a salad on the side.

The portions are generous, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, and there’s often live music in the evenings to round off the day. If you’re up for a casual bite in a fun setting and maybe a few house-brewed beers while you’re at it MBC is a great spot to settle in, whether you're mid-holiday or winding down after a day on the mountain.

Le Vert Restaurant, Chamonix Les Gaillands style of cuisine

6. Le Vert Restaurant

Le Vert in Gaillands is a relaxed, welcoming spot just outside Chamonix centre, offering fresh international dishes alongside stunning mountain views. The menu features tasty bar snacks, juicy burgers, and a great-value three-course dinner, catering to all tastes. Guests can enjoy a refreshing drink on the sunny terrace or settle in for a leisurely, laid-back evening meal. With its friendly service, generous portions, and charming atmosphere, Le Vert is perfect for both casual bites and relaxed dining experiences.

Le Vert restaurant has become renowned for its excellent food, service and ambience. It has a bright modern interior with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

The restaurant serves a continental breakfast from 07:30 to 10:30, bar snacks from 17:00 which are great to share with friends after an active day on the mountain, and a delicious international dinner menu from 18:00. They also offer a great value, three-course menu-du-jour that can be ordered in advance or on the night.

You can choose to sit indoors or on their sunny terrace overlooking the lake and the Mont Blanc mountain range.

7. Poco Loco Restaurant

Whether you just need a quick snack or if you have the late night munchies, this restaurant will satisfy your cravings with something quick, hot and tasty.

Open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, they serve one of the best burgers in town as well as crêpes, hot sandwiches and veggie options, all freshly prepared for you to eat in or takeaway. A Chamonix institution.

8. Elevation 1904 Restaurant

Just a hop across the road from the front of the main Chamonix train station, this restaurant is a perfect spot to sit outside in the sunshine and watch the world go by. Its hearty menu of pub favourites offers something for everyone, from classic burgers and sandwiches to comforting mains. With generous portions, friendly service, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it’s an ideal place to enjoy a casual meal while soaking up the lively Chamonix vibe.

There's a bit of something for everyone here; popular with locals, tourists and day-trippers alike, you'll have to get in early to grab a table, especially when the sun is out.

Their menu proposes a selection of pub favourites, such as burgers, sandwiches and paninis, wedges, chips and hearty salads. They also serve an extensive choice for breakfast including a 'Full English'. It's simple but tasty fare and reasonably priced for its central location and cracking views of the mountains.

This is a really popular place to hang out after a day on the mountain and you will find crowds of skiers, mountaineers, hikers and bikers swapping stories of the days activities over a chilled beer and a snack. They also have DJs playing from time to time, either at après or later in the evening, so things can get pretty lively.

ELA Deli, Chamonix Main Town

ELA is a small deli offering world food, salads and it even has a small restaurant license so you can grab a beer or a bottle of wine to go with your meal.

On the menu are salads, soups, wraps, speciality roast meats and hot food to eat in or take away.

L'Index Restaurant, Chamonix

10. L'Index Restaurant

If you like the comforts of family home-cooking and you're also a fan of live music and culture of all kinds, you'll be right at home at L'Index.

More than just a restaurant, L'Index combines cuisine and culture, hosting shows with local and international artists or all kinds - musicians, comedians and theatre groups. The shows are held as standalone events, or as unique dinner shows. Find the seasonal program on their website.

L'Index restaurant proposes a changing seasonal menu, based around the dishes of yesteryear that were found on the tables of our grandmothers. They have a strong focus on local Haute-Savoie produce and a zero waste objective, with the organic waste given to their hens and pigs who live at the back of the building.

The Index also offers a reception for weddings, seminars, birthdays and other group events from 30 to 500 people.

Open in summer and winter, Sunday to Monday (closed Tuesday).

Le Boccalatte Restaurant, Chamonix style of cuisine

11. Le Boccalatte Restaurant

This restaurant is close to the train station and just a short walk from the cable car. The interior is smart yet simple and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

This restaurant is the place to go for all the best regional specialities from tartiflette to fondue; if you need a cheese fix, then look no further. Other specialities include omelettes, pizzas, choucroute and steak tartare.

It is popular with locals as you can always be sure that your get delicious quality cuisine at reasonable prices.

Le Bartavel Restaurant, Chamonix style of cuisine

12. Le Bartavel Restaurant

A popular place mostly due to its central location and tasty pizzas, this restaurant offers a lot of exterior seating on its large terrace.

The pizzas are cooked in a wood fired oven, and you'll find the prices are quite reasonable even though it's smack bang in the centre of the main street in Chamonix. They also serve pasta, Savoyard dishes and French brasserie cuisine, including omelettes and meat.

L'M Brasserie & Terrace Restaurant, Chamonix Centre restaurant terrasse

13. L'M Brasserie and Terrace

This is one of the best-located restaurants in Chamonix. Right in the heart of the resort, it has a large terrace with spectacular views of the mountains.

The restaurant offers 160 places in the dining room and a further 220 places on the terrace. The L'M brasserie serves typical Savoyard cuisine and specialities: fondue, raclette, pela, pierrade, cured meats. There are also a number of fish and pasta dishes on the menu, as well as a tempting array of desserts.

Outside, the large terrace facing Mont-Blanc can offer you a snack or a hot meal or simply a glass of mulled wine or a crepe, while soaking up the sun. The terrace is a popular place to meet friends in the evening - live music, flaming torches and freshly prepared waffles.

The three-course set menu is particularly good value.
